Vietnam

Our transportation from Saigon to Vung Tau was by chopper.  This picture was taken as we approached the southern coast of South Vietnam near Vung Tau.  I'll bet flight crews looked forward to safer destinations like Vung Tau.

Doors?  You wanted doors too?  Be sure to fasten your seat belt.  It got scary when the aircraft banked in a hard turn.

Note the earth berms around important areas on the ground.

Who'd know there is a war going on?  Dale is carrying my tan suitcase while I take his picture.

The team at the end of our stay in Vung Tau:
Bill Cobb, John Martin, Bill Fickett, Dale Dodrill, and Bill Walker

Martin and Fickett were career military types; the rest of us were reserve officers.

John Martin was a special person and became a good friend during my two-year stay in the service.  He came up through the ranks, so understood people management as only a non-comm could.  He took us youngsters under his wing, taught us the ropes, and kept us in line.  His good tan was from beach time during our stop-over in Oahu.  He'd take me to the beach & see that I was lathered in suntan lotion, hoping to get me tanned up.  As you can see, he had limited success.
