Farah is in Hollywood FL and was hit by Hurricane Wilma. Her house was not damaged. She had gutters and tree fall, mostly cosmetics since she had hurricane shutters. Her in-laws live in mobile homes and were badly damaged. Her mother-in law's home was completely destroyed. William, her husband has family who are now living with them. Hollywood was not structurally damaged as other areas. Mostly trees, mobile homes destroyed, some roof damage, and widespread power outages.
If you have seen the news supplies are very limited. Farah waited in line each day most of the day to get propane, ice, water, etc. Sometimes she was turned away. There are long lines to get any gas, ice, water food, some stretching for about a mile. The stations that do have gas and power run out quickly. In her area they was no danger from looting. The police were enforcing the curfew and were doing a great job securing the area.
Mikey and myself drove down and came back Thursday. We brought them basic supplies, food, water, propane, gas clothing etc. She got electricity 5 minutes before we pulled in. They were in desperate need of the supplies. They had food and water barely for Thursday as they were trying to feed the family.
We would like to try to go down again. If conditions don't improve we will have to bring more food and water to last them. The supplies we brought will only last them another week. Hopefully the stores and gas stations will start opening up more and have supplies.
Farah and her in-laws were very grateful for the help. The were so selfless. Everyone is trying to help each other, her friends and neighbors, helping each other. If we are to go back down, I would like to bring more clothing and toiletries as well as food and water. William has about 7 nieces and nephews.
I will keep you informed about the situation and whether we will be able to go down again. William's cell phone is now working so I will be talking to Farah everyday to get a handle on the situation.
Please pray for Farah and her family, as well as her neighbors. We are very thankful that they did as well as they did.
Send everyone my love,
Jen 10/28/05

I talked to William last night. He said stores were opening and gas not as limited. In time things will be back to normal.
