Jan & Bill's Wedding

We were married in Washington on January 4, 1975.  (Not January 5, Jan.  It's engraved in my wedding band!  ... and on our wedding announcement.)

The wedding was held in Lorraine Dziedzic's apartment and officiated by Jan's close friend Father Vincent Keane.  Vincent was a Roman Catholic Priest and on the staff of Jan's church.  Our previous marriages prevented us from being married in her church, so Vincent performed a civil ceremony.  Jan authored the service, with a little free consulting from me (remember the Florida land?)

Vince was a great Priest and counselor, however he was a bit disorganized.  We think he recorded our  marriage; however we've never received confirmation.  James and Julie, we won't tell.

Anyhow, the wedding was outstanding.  Attendees included most of my immediate family; Jan's Mom Celina and her cousin Claire; Bob Marmon, an army buddy who happened to be living in Washington; and Jan's Washington friends (Jack, Bonnie, Earl, Ann Roberts, Bud Meredith).  And of course, Lee and Terri.

Music was by Rod Stewart; because of good wedding memories I still experience an internal thrill when I hear his gravely voice .  [OK, I blew that one.  Mom & I were at Deborah Gimson's wedding last weekend & I realized that the song I was thinking of is The Wedding Song, written by Noel Paul Stookey of Peter Paul and Mary.  We think the recording Mom selected for the wedding was performed by Stookey, but she isn't sure.]

Claire, Jan's cousin, and her Mom Celina arrived in Washington a day or so before the wedding.  They had not met Bill prior to their arrival, but after some inspection decided that he was worthy of Jan's time.  Gutsy move, Jan.  What if they didn't approve?

Jan, Celina, Claire, and Lorraine.  Lorraine was Jan's Maid of Honor, apartment mate, and one of her closest Washington friends.

The reception was a great get together with family and friends who cared for us and helped nurture our relationship.  We overstayed our welcome, but given Jan's move to her new Atlanta home she wouldn't have as many opportunities to see these special friends in the future.

We spent our wedding night in Washington and awoke the next morning ready to face the rest of our lives together.  After picking up a last few odds and ends (not too many, as we drove Jan's sports car on our honeymoon), we said our goodbyes to John, remaining family, and Lorraine and headed south along the Blue Ridge Parkway toward our Atlanta home.
