2006 Christmas Greetings!!

2006 has been a good year for our family.

Jan & I traveled a lot visiting with family and friends.  As we advance further into retirement, opportunities to share time with close friends have become much more important to us, and we gleefully embrace each opportunity.  This year we visited James & Gretchen in New Orleans in April, joined the bridge group in Alligator Point FL in May, toured parts of the northeast US and eastern Canada by bike in June, vacationed with the family at St George Island FL in August, enjoyed Debra Gimson’s wedding at Camp Mikel in north Georgia in September, visited with TransAlp friends at the annual TransAlp Rally in Stecoah Gap NC in October, joined the bridge group in Nashville in October, and enjoyed the reunion of KSA Textile Systems friends at Callaway Gardens GA in October.  Our 2007 plans include continuing these types of trips.  (Photos of many of the trips are in the Photo Album)

Jan continues to work with the bank.  I hear her mumbling about retiring, but then in the next breath she expresses good feelings about the positive feedback she receives from co-workers and customers.  Medically she had a tough year.  She had minor surgery in the summer to repair plumbing, and is currently recuperating from a broken leg that resulted from being hit by a car while we were walking to Ryman Hall during our fall trip to Nashville.  Her recovery is progressing fine, and by year’s end she should be able to catch me when I need corporal punishment.

Bill continues his activities in motorcycling, investment management, web mastering, and a little consulting.  AHRMA kept him busy again this year.  After rebuilding his flat tracker during the winter, he campaigned it in 11 rounds of the 16 round AHRMA National Dirt Track series, plus a few rounds in the Southeast Regional series.  He is still points keeper for both the national and southeast region series.  Investment management is important these days, and we’ve again had a good year.  Knock on wood.  Web mastering seems to have crept into Bill’s repertoire.  He created the www.innkeepersgazette.com site in 2004 as a means of communicating with family.  It has grown, and Bill is currently working on a long-term project to add a section documenting family history.  This year he also built and managed www.atlantamc.com, the Atlanta Motorcycle Club’s web site.  And to fill the odd spare minute, Bill & Tony DeMaria are doing a consulting gig with a local internet start-up company.  Oh yeah, he also tried his hand at house repair, but Jan fired him and is looking for professional help.

John and Sharon still live 30 miles away in Lilburn, GA with grandkids Chace & Abby, and granddogs Clyde and Chloe.  John built an office in his basement this summer – it’s a quality job Grandpa Cobb would be proud of – and has plans for a basement playroom next year.  He and Sharon used their pop-up camper a lot this year.  John is doing well at Busker (www.buskercom.com).  Their revenues have grown significantly in 2006 as a result of his efforts.  Sharon spends most of her time marshalling kids & dogs, but found time to sell a house or two and redecorate a room or two.  Chace & Abby?  They make us proud; ask us about them, but only if you have a spare hour or two.

James, Gretchen, and Jesse have settled in Boston.  Their Cambridge home has a fenced back yard, over which Jesse is ecstatic!  Four years of sidewalks is enough!  James completed his clerkship in New Orleans in September and accepted a position with Ropes & Gray, LLP in downtown Boston.  He is immersed in and enjoying the challenges of his new position.  Not to be outdone on the academic side, Gretchen is in graduate school at a close-by university.  She expects to complete the program in 2007.  Her on-line business – www.originalinspirations.com -- is taking a back seat to schoolhouse activities, but she’ll be happy to take your orders.  Mom and I look forward to seeing the three of them, and a little snow, this winter.

Julie and Dan are in Atlanta.  Dan purchased a house last summer close to the I-85 / Clairmont Road interchange, and Julie & three of her friends live there with Dan.  Dan’s dad Randy is helping him with minor renovations.  Julie is Assistant Manager of Gables Properties’ Dunwoody Gables property.  She & Dan added Indie, a Border Collie / St. Bernard mix, to their family last month.  Julie & Dad had a nice visit on the way to south Georgia to pick him up from a rescue group.  Indie fits their life style perfectly.  He has been screened by Clyde & Chloe, who gave enthusiastic approval.  Mom & I will get to know him better in January while Julie and Dan are on a cruise.  Julie’s jewelry business, Julie Cobb Designs, is growing.  She held several trunk shows this year, and she will expand her product line after she finishes a soldering course this winter.

Keep up with us through the coming year via this site.  You will find great pictures of our activities, plus historical views of our families.

Be sure to let us know if you plan to be in the Atlanta area – we’d love to see you!
