Bays Mountain from our hotel room window. I didn't pay much attention to Bays Mountain while I lived in Kingsport, but it seemed to stand out this weekend. There is a reservoir and good hiking trails around the reservoir on top of the mountain, plus a nature center with a small planetarium.
Classmates head into the building we knew as Dobyns Bennett. It is presently a junior high school, and has been modified to the point that we had trouble identifying landmarks from our days there.
The person in the blue sweater to the left of the picture guided our tour. All others are classmates.
This was the girls' gym.
One of several music rooms. The music program in this school currently has over 400 students, and is one of two city junior high schools that feed musicians into the Dobyns Bennett High School music program enabling it to be one of the best in the state.
A student break area.
And a classroom. Much nicer than when we were there. Kingsport's industries have continued to support the education system, enabling the schools to have top notch facilities and faculty in return for providing the companies with a well educated work force.
Classmates filing into the school auditorium. It has not changed much since we attended the school.
The classmates who participated in the tour.
Sue Shaulis Thomas, who was one of the reunion's organizers, opens the gathering at Katie Driskell's entertainment center on Boone Lake. The Organizing committee did a marvelous job of putting on the reunion; we owe them a great big "thank you".
John Rankin filled the master of ceremonies role.
Barbara Coughenour, another member of the organizing committee.
The meeting room at Katies entertainment center was decorated with life-sized characteratures of many of our favorite (and a few not-so-favorite) teachers. Ceiling decorations are records (45s) from our high school days.
The sun sets on our gathering. Our hats are off to the organizing committee; we are already looking forward to the 60th reunion.
