This should be titled “Hiding your light under a bushel #1”, but we will let her off the hook since Julie did let me know and I neglected to post it for our readers.
Julie was named corporate Community Manager of the Year by Gables Residential in February of 2014. This is quite an honor, as she was competing for the award with all Gables Residential’s Community Managers.
We are confident that her selection was largely influenced by her successful rollout of the Gables Emory Point property, one of two premier properties in Gables Residential’s property portfolio (the other being in Texas).
Julie took over the Gables Emory Point Community Manager role while the property was in early construction stages. Marketing the property and leasing its luxury apartment homes were challenging. Her early office was in a construction type trailer located in a property parking lot. The walk to see the one or two completed prototype apartments was through an active construction site.
She successfully managed lease out of the property’s 443 Phase 1 apartment homes and is currently managing the lease out of the additional 307 apartment homes that will be available when Phase 2 is competed in 2015. Under her management the property has consistently been well above budgeted occupancy levels.
And she successfully managed resident expectations, relocations and repairs when the property experienced unexpected post construction glitches that impacted its residents.
Needless to say, property owners Cousins Properties and Gables are pleased with the results Julie and her team have delivered.
I suspect Julie’s favorite accomplishment is the management team she has built at Gables Emory Point. Her team likes working for her and was able to successfully manage the property throughout her three month post-pregnancy leave.
We are proud of what Julie has accomplished during her ten year tenure at Gables Residential. She encountered quite a few high stress situations as she rose through her roles as Leasing Agent, Assistant Community Manager, and Community Manager. She managed mostly fee managed properties (properties owned by non-Gables entities) and rounded her experience by managing several Gables-owned properties, excelling in both situations.
The Community Manager role at Emory Point was highly sought after within Gables Residential. I am sure the tough lessons Julie learned as she “came up through the ranks” (especially those associated with fee managed properties) were a major factor in her being picked to manage the property.
Congratulations to Julie for her accomplishments and to Gables Residential for recognizing the quality of her work.
