Thanks to our wonderful children and their spouses for treating Mom and me to a great celebration of our forty (yep, you read that right — forty as in four zero) years of marriage. We gathered on January 23rd at John and Sharon’s home in Lilburn for an evening of visiting, eating, and reminiscing over years of family history. It was a great, relaxed evening that Mom and I will remember fondly forever.
The gathering was “adults only”. Mom and I normally prefer family gatherings that include the grandchildren, but in this case the format enabled all of us to spend our time together visiting on an adult plane and not being distracted by the need to watch over the younger grandchildren. We have not had the opportunity to visit in this format in quite some time, and the evening was full of the playful banter you would expect from a group that has known each other all of their lives and care for each other as this group does.
The evening reinforced to Mom and me that the mantle of guiding and molding our family’s future is now firmly on the shoulders of our children and the families they and their spouses have created. They all are very capable, stable and have good visions of where they want to take their families in the years to come.
We are truly blessed.
