ASA Championship Swim Meet

Izzy And Adeline swam in the ASA Championship Swim Meet for the Country Club of the South Swim Team on June 29th. They swam very well.  We are very proud of the effort they have put into their swimming this year and the results we have seen at their meets.

Here are a few photos and videos from the ASA Swim Meet.  Click on any of the photos to see a larger version.

Girls ruled at the 2023 Atlanta Swim Association Championship. The event was held in two of the world class pools at the Georgia Tech Recreation and Swim Center. The girls' competition was held in this pool and the boys competition in a separate pool.

Addy’s Sixth Birthday Party

Click on the image to see a larger version.

The Fields family plus Marge, Randy, Amanda, Bill and Jan gathered at Julie and Dan’s home on Sunday, January 8th to celebrate Addy’s sixth birthday party.

The celebration was wonderful – Dan put together a great meal around BBQ’d wings (in spite of having to grill in the rain) while Julie decorated Addy’s cake and supplemented it with yummy homemade ice cream. I came away from the party with lots of grins and a few extra inches around my middle.

Thanks to Julie and Dan for creating a memorable evening for Addy and sharing it with us!!

Photos of the event are available under the 2023 Photos page (a link to it is in the main menu) or click here.

Fall Leaves at Old Campus Trail

Leaves have been falling heavily for several weeks creating a beautiful cover for the yard and driveway.  This morning the drive was completely hidden even though I clean up the yard several times each week.  It appears that the trees in the front yard are about 60% of the way through this year’s crop of leaves.  Here are a few shots of what I saw today before today’s clean-up.

Unfortunately I missed a photo-op with the maple tree in front of our garage. It and the dogwoods are always the first to signal the coming of fall on Old Campus Trail with their brilliant red and gold fall colors.

Happy Mother’s Day 2021!

Happy Mother's Day to all of our family's mothers - Janet, Sharon, Gretchen and Julie!

Our family's next generations are blessed with kind, stable and successful young people.  This only happened because of the love and support you provided.  The sacrifices you made in order that your children can live in a stable, nurturing environment have made a huge difference in their -- and our -- lives.

We are thankful for your efforts and are so proud of all of you and your children.

Our love to all!

43 years 8 months …

Jan’s Mother Celina LaPierre Jutras, Lorraine Dziedzic Grant (James’ Godmother), Janet, Father Vincent Keane, Bill and John at Lorraine’s apartment in Arlington VA, January 4, 1975

For some reason the photo cube that sits on our kitchen desk caught my eye this morning as I was checking email. I see it every day, but today the photo to the right was pointed my direction and it brought back a flood of memories of the fall of 1974 & early 1975 - particularly January 4, 1975. Good memories. Two young people, newly met, in love and electing to cast their lots in life together and form a new family - or should I say 3 young people as John was part of it from the relationship’s earliest beginning. We didn’t know where our journey would take us, but we had hopes and faith that it would be an interesting journey full of love.

Lots of water has passed under our bridge in the 43 years and 8 months since, the memories are still good, the journey is still full of love and is still interesting.

We love you.

Christy & Owen Visit Atlanta

Izzy, Owen and Aunt Sharon. What a nice gathering. Christy, come back any time!

Julie and Dan hosted a reception for Christy and Owen at their home on March 3rd. Atlanta family members plus Janice, Christy and Owen were there.

Christy was in town to present to the Southeastern Commission for the Study of Religion. Owen accompanied her so that he could meet the Atlanta family. Janice, never one to pass up a good party, a visit with Gramma Jan or a babysitting opportunity joined Christy for her day in the sun.

Thanks to Julie and Dan for a wonderful party!

Photos of the gathering are available in the 2018 Gallery.

Congratulations Adeline!

Julie and Dan started the New Year off by celebrating Adeline's first birthday. During our drive to the party, Jan and I reminisced about SnowJam 2017 that accompanied Adeline's birth a year ago today, and how quiet Atlanta's streets were as we drove to the hospital. This year's weather is cold with no snow - hooray! - but lots of traffic as folks gather in Atlanta for the UGA Alabama championship game Monday night!

Adeline's birthday was celebrated in grand style.  Julie did a great job of decorating the house, she and Izzy were great hostesses, and Dan whipped up a great lunch for the crowd of Cobbs and Fields.  Thanks for including us in the celebration Julie, Dan and Izzy!  Photos are in the 2018 Gallery.

Dan, Julie and Adeline celebrate Adeline's birthday on January 6th, 2018. Happy Birthday Adeline!!

Congratulations Abby!!

Abby has had a monster week.

It started on Saturday, November 11th, with the Miss Parkview Pageant in Lilburn where she was the first runner-up. Her cheering gallery included Mom & Dad, Chace, Julie, Izzy, Gramma Jan and Bill.

Second up was the Parkview High School Cross Country Awards Banquet on Tuesday night, November 14th. She received a number of awards including her third varsity cross country letter (count does not include her track letters), the scholar athlete award, and a Coaches Award from Coach Richard King. The latter was very special to Abby, as it was totally unexpected and is a good commentary on Abby's improvement over the four years she ran for Coach King.

Third was hearing from the University of Georgia on Friday, November 17th that she has been accepted into their Class of 2022 through their "Early Action" process. Abby was nervous about her application given the competitiveness of being accepted at UGA these days. She had a few fallback schools, but really wanted to join brother Chace at UGA. Her efforts and prayers were answered.

Congratulations Abby!! We all are proud of you!!

Adeline Margaret Fields

Adeline Margaret Fields

Welcome Adeline Margaret Fields. She joined Julie, Dan and Izzy's family on January 6th and has already captivated a number of hearts around the Fields and Cobb households. Congratulations Julie, Dan, and Izzy.

Ian’s Celebration of Learning

The boys — Ian, Oliver, Everett, and Andrew — at Ian’s “Celebration of Learning” open house at Oakhurst Elementary on December 6, 2016.

We can’t think of a greater way to start the Christmas season than joining Gretchen D’Huyvetter Cobb and these four young men for an open house at Ian and Andrew’s school this evening. The topic was a Celebration of Learning by Ian’s class showcasing their recent studies of cultures. Gramma Jan and I were impressed with the material they covered and Ian’s good explanations of their studies. Thank you Ian!!
